Chris, good clear description of the attitude or approach that enables scientific progress. The first paragraph of this article is gold. Yet, both science and ideology are required if you want a human being. Not Spoc on Star Trek. :-)

Thanks, Ben! You're exactly right: science gives us the tools to understand the world, but ideology (or belief, or values) shapes what we do with that understanding. Knowledge and feelings are both essential to a full human experience.

The challenge is keeping each in its lane, without letting one masquerade as the other. And yes—Spock (and Data) are brilliant, but I'm aiming for something a lot more human.
